Proper venting is essential for proper system performance.
Ideally, the vent on any system should be:
1. Vertical
2. Sealed
3. Clear from obstruction (e.g., leaves, cobwebs, etc.)
Waterless Self-Contained Systems
Vents should be installed vertically (i.e., straight-up) through the roof for proper evaporation. This is even more important for Non-Electric and 12VDC Systems to maintain proper aeration and drafting.
With AC Electric models, vents can be installed with an angle not exceeding 45° through a side wall and then straight up above the roof.
If using a 45° with a Non-Electric or 12VDC model, an Envirolet® Turbo fan should be added to ensure proper ventilation.
Never use a 90° angle on any vent. This can cause liquid evaporate to collect in the vent and/or run back down the vent line.
For Self-Contained Systems, insulation around exposed vents (outside or in attic spaces) is recommended, especially if cold weather is a factor.
Waterless and Low Water Remote Systems
All Remote Systems come standard with a section of flexible vent duct pipes that easily connect or disconnect. Remote Systems also feature a 4" vent which allows for greater air-flow.
Venting for Remote Systems should also be vertical/straight-up. But, this will not always be possible if the composting unit is going to be installed under a structure. A 90° angles should never be used in any installation.
